The order of operations for every photo
- Check the file
- Remove hidden data
- Compress
- Protect identities
- Record consent
- Only then, any network call
Privacy
Photos stay on your device until you choose to run a cloud tool.
- Style matching on the device, identity protection and production packs run in your browser.
- When you run a cloud tool, Fieldnia sends a compressed copy with hidden data removed, and the minimum needed for that step.
- Fieldnia does not store your uploads on its servers during the pilot. If that changes, the privacy notice is updated first.
Metadata
Location and camera data comes off before any upload and on every download.
- EXIF, GPS, XMP and IPTC fields are removed by one shared utility used on every upload and export path.
- That includes GPS coordinates, capture time, phone model and author fields, which can reveal where people live or who took the photo.
- Each tool shows a short notice confirming location and camera data was removed.
Consent
Consent is recorded with the photo and checked before export.
- For each photo you record whether consent is in place, whether a child is in frame, whether faces are identifiable and whether the location is sensitive.
- If consent is missing for identifiable people, or a child is in frame without consent, export is blocked until identities are protected.
- A sensitive location triggers a reminder to check backgrounds and signage.
Identity protection
Blur or pixelate faces on the device before anything is sent.
- Where the browser supports it, Fieldnia suggests faces to cover. You can add or move boxes by hand.
- Automatic detection can miss faces, so the tool asks you to check every one.
- Restoration does not add or alter facial features. Photorealistic generation is available only in Studio, which is off unless you switch it on, is labelled AI-generated image, and never creates a likeness of a real person.
Human review
Fieldnia prepares. It never approves anything for publication.
- Drafts are marked as drafts. Names, places and numbers not found in your notes are flagged for you to confirm or remove.
- Before you download a finished photo or a caption PDF, you confirm consent, accuracy and dignity in a short checklist.
- Designs and generated visuals carry a label. Designs built around your own photo say "Real photograph. Designed with Fieldnia." Generated visuals say "Fieldnia assisted. AI-generated image."
Activity on this device
See what was exported and when, without sending it anywhere.
- Fieldnia keeps a short activity log in your browser: exports, production packs and similar actions, with times.
- You can review, download or clear it in Settings, under Account.
- The log holds action names, times and short details. It never holds images, and it never leaves the device unless you download it.
AI providers
What is sent, and to whom.
Provider keys live only on the server. Every paid request passes access, limit and rate checks first.
Fieldnia does not train models on your data. Each provider has its own API data policy, and those policies can change. The full table, with links, is in the privacy notice.
Retention
How long things are kept.
Your uploads
Not stored by Fieldnia. Provider handling follows each provider's policy.
Recent outputs
Held in your browser for seven days so you can find them again, then removed.
Access and usage
Hashed code, counts, ratings and scrubbed events, kept for the pilot.
